Utah Launches Higher Education AI Task Force

Press Release • Published May 5, 2026

The Utah Board of Higher Education launched a statewide Artificial Intelligence Task Force focused on preparing Utah’s colleges, universities, students, and workforce for rapid advances in AI.

The task force brings together leaders from higher education, government, and industry to coordinate AI initiatives across the state and develop recommendations around responsible adoption, teaching and learning, and workforce readiness.

A major early priority is Utah’s AI Workforce Credential, designed to help students build practical AI skills alongside the expertise developed in their chosen field of study.

The initiative reflects Utah’s broader pro-human AI approach: using artificial intelligence to expand human capability while preserving critical thinking, creativity, ethical judgment, and collaboration.

Tim Kapp was named as an industry member of the task force, contributing experience in artificial intelligence, economics, and higher education to the statewide effort.
